Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for blending stockpile materials
   • Access, interpret and apply blending of stockpile materials documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, interpret and clarify work instructions
   • Complete start up checks, and prepare work area
   • Identify, manage and report potential hazards and risks
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment
   • Use approved dust suppression and extraction methods
   • Identify and locate correct material grade according to stockpile plan
   • Using site communication methods and systems, communicate clearly and concisely in English work requirements to others
   • Follow emergency procedures and ensure safety of others, plant and equipment
2. Blend materials
   • Select the correct quantity and grade of material, use appropriate blending techniques and check required blend of minerals is achieved
   • Monitor the surrounding site, access roads and ensure they are not contaminated
   • Monitor blending process and ensure correct grades of minerals are selected
   • Identify contaminants, remove, and follow contaminant management procedure
   • Prepare written record and reports for contaminants and the process used to remedy or remove the contaminant
3. Carry out post-operational procedures
   • Inspect, determine faults and report equipment faults
   • Carry out operational maintenance, servicing, lubricating and housekeeping tasks
   • Process written records and reports

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and effective completion of blending stockpile materials to meet all required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

demonstrates completion of blending stockpile materials that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

using site determined communication system and equipment

using knowledge of the requirements, procedures and instructions for blending of stockpile materials

operating hand tools when blending stockpile materials

monitoring the blending process and ensure correct grades of minerals are selected

applying diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques to blending of stockpile materials

operating a computer system to record issues, report activity, and faults and process used to remedy or remove contaminants when blending of stockpile materials
